The women residing at Chaparral Pines and The Rim Club sponsored a joint luncheon Dec. 7. Each woman attending was encouraged to bring a sweatshirt or hooded sweatshirt/fleece jacket for a homeless student in the Payson Unified School District.
A total of 129 new, warm garments in sizes appropriate for K-12 students were donated. In addition, $285 was presented to purchase warm socks and underwear for those students in need.
“This was our first attempt at including a community service project with our semi-annual luncheon plans. We were delighted with the generous response,” said Kathie Paczkowski, chairperson of the event.
Susan Campbell, Payson Schools Homeless Service Coordinator, said there are more than 400 students that qualify for homeless services and expressed appreciation for the donations.
“Every one of these beautiful and fun sweatshirts will be distributed to students for the holidays. We are very grateful to community partners such as the Rim/Chaparral Pines ladies. This donation allows us to continue serving students with urgent needs.”
