A bridge across Tonto Creek in Punkin Center is one step closer.
Gila County supervisors have authorized spending $119,000 on a contract with C.L. Williams Consulting, Inc. for the project.
The bridge will be for a new crossing as well as the associated access roadway, according to documentation on the issue presented at the Dec. 14 board of supervisors’ meeting in Star Valley.
“Given the nature of the project, a professional consultant is necessary in providing the county with various survey and engineering work as well as interaction and coordination with the design consultant, the Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Agency,” director of public works Steve Stratton said in the documentation.
The project has three phases:
• Data collection, coordination and meetings.
• Technical reviews, including environmental permits, a design concept report and design.
Stratton said the consultant will support the county during development of the necessary federal environmental permits; the work associated with the bridge and access design, including plans, specifications and estimates of costs, providing technical review services.
The firm has worked with the county on the Tonto Creek bridge project since 2007.
“Due to (C.L. Williams’) extensive knowledge and involvement with the project, it is beneficial to the county to continue with the same consultant,” Stratton said in the documentation.
The term of the contract is from Dec. 14, 2010 to Oct. 31, 2011.
