As snow brings winter conditions to the high country of the Coconino National Forest, the Forest Service takes several measures to provide for the safety of winter visitors and protect forest resources.

Road closures — Many forest roads are seasonally closed due to wet or snowy conditions especially in higher elevations. Drivers are reminded to respect road barricades and avoid driving on saturated surfaces to prevent road damage, soil erosion and getting stuck.

Roads in the Schultz Fire area remain closed including Lockett Meadow Road 552 and Schultz Pass Road 420. See www.coconinoforest.us for current conditions and a road status list.

Snowbowl Road — Snowbowl Road is subject to closure when the ski area is not open. Arizona Snowbowl is responsible for snowplow operations on Snowbowl Road.

Wing Mountain Snowplay Area — Located 10 miles northwest of Flagstaff off of Highway 180 on Forest Road 222B, this site opened today. The cost per vehicle is $12. This site is managed by Recreation Resource Manage-ment with services including parking, snowplowing, restrooms, and trash receptacles. For conditions at Wing Mountain, call 602-923-3555 or visit http://www.snowplayaz.com.

Additional snowplay locations include Mormon Lake Lodge and Happy Jack Lodge along Forest Highway 3. Cinch Hook Pit — on Mogollon Rim District is closed for snowplay.
