Start the New Year right with a New Year’s Sunrise Prayer Service at 7 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 1. Meet at the top of Houston Mesa Road, about two miles east of Beeline Highway. Participants will hike about five minutes to an overlook of Rim Country, where there will be a prayer service for the community and nation. In case of rain or extra snow, the service will be at Uptown Espresso, 612 N. Beeline Highway (next to the Circle K). For more information, call (928) 472-8178.

Thrift store sale

The Pine Strawberry Thrift Store will have New Year’s party wear and cruise clothing on sale at half off the marked prices Dec. 29 through Dec. 31.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located 3916 N. Highway 87 in Pine.

• Libraries, museums closed for New Year’s Eve

Donate by Dec. 31 for tax credits

You have until Dec. 31, 2010 to make financial donations to area schools and a few state certified charities to claim the tax credits allowed by the Arizona Department of Revenue.

All area public schools are participating in the Credit for Kids program and six organizations are also eligible for a tax credit. The charities, according to a list on the ADOR Web site are: Payson Area Habitat for Humanity, Payson Christian Clinic, Payson Community Kids, Payson Helping Payson and Time Out Inc. The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona is the parent of the local BBBS group and also eligible for a tax credit contribution.

A total of $200 per individual or $400 per married couple may be contributed and claimed as a tax credit. All the funds may go to one entity or be divided between several.

New Year’s Services

First Baptist Church of Pine, 4039 N. Highway 87, Pine — Friends and neighbors are also invited to join the congregation of the First Baptist Church of Pine for a Watch Night program. The festivities are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, Dec. 31.

There will be games and fellowship, the evening will close with a service of thanks to the Lord for this year and asking His blessings for the coming year. Please feel free to come eat and fellowship with us at this end of the year fellowship time.

Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane, Payson — The New Year’s Eve Service is at 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 31. Holy Communion will be served. The theme of the service will be “The Lord is my Light.”
