I want to thank all those holiday enthusiasts who drug out the lights, sawed the figures, blew up the Santas, penguins, reindeer, etc., and braved electrocution for the Sixth Annual “Light the Rim” House Lighting Contest.
The 30 entrants to the lighting contest all deserve an award for their energy, persistence (1-1/2 inches of rain) and creativity in their highly individual house lighting.
This year, entrants were invited from all of Rim Country, and we have houses from Strawberry (first time and honorable mention) to Freedom Acres, to Diamond Point and all locations in between trying for the cash awards, and for the signs for the front yard proclaiming their awards. We had entrants from all four quadrants of Payson, from Star Valley, and those mentioned above.
The judges had a long evening, and a very hard time deciding the awards. Congratulations to our first place — Jeannie Coppins, second place — the Hardt family, third place — Ted Spinney, and our three honorable mentions — John Voyles, the White family and Richard Kubiak.
Also, congratulations to all of you who took the time to enter, you may inspire others in 2011.
Thank you also to our sponsors, Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, Payson Regional Medical Center and the Payson Roundup.
Thank you to our judges, which shall remain unnamed, but spent three hours in a stuffy van, checking scoring sheets with flashlights, and trying to keep track of the next number — no names or addresses were revealed to them.
Please go out and take a look at the great creations of our entrants. You will find that they have done more than a commendable job. Our region does “Light the Rim.”
