Happy New Year from Yuma, Ariz. My hubby and I came to Yuma to spend Christmas with our children. Our grandson, Brian Snyder, received leave from Camp Pendleton to spend the weekend with the family. Our granddaughter, Kathy Nelson, drove from San Diego and everyone converged on our son Bill’s house for a sumptuous Christmas dinner after a whirlwind of unwrapping gifts. We received word that a storm was going to be in Payson mid-week so we came home to Tonto Village.

Birthdays this week include Stu Stewart of Tonto Village I on Jan. 3 , Hellsgate firefighter Bobby Mollere on Jan. 4 and Hellsgate firefighter John Lacey on Jan. 5. A happy birthday to all of you.

On a personal note, our oldest daughter Joanne and her husband Gary Harper will celebrate their anniversary on Dec. 31. Our grandson Jonathan Porter and his wife Janet will celebrate 11 years of marriage. Happy anniversary to the both of you.

The Divas are still getting together at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Tonto Village Fire Station. If there is inclement weather, it is postponed. You can call Dara Sutton at 478-0052 or Linda Stailey at 478-4641 or Janet Snyder at 478-9935 if you are uncertain about whether the games will be held.

The next scheduled fire board meeting will be held at 5:50 p.m., Jan. 12 at fire station 21 in Star Valley. Be sure to attend.

The Fireflies are still collecting and accepting non-perishable items for the holiday food drive. The boxes are at the fire station in Star Valley on Walters Lane and at the fire station in Tonto Village on Mathews Lane. Any item, including dog food, is greatly appreciated. As always, the food items will be brought to the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Payson.

The nine-ball women’s competition was held last week at the Double D. the winners were Linda Stailey, Kara Shaw and Sherrie. The Tonto Village gals swept the tables. Congratulations to the winners.

I hope that everyone has a safe New Year. Please make sure you have a designated driver if you plan on celebrating the New Year with alcohol. We want you to be with us for the New Year of 2011. We know that it will be a better year for everyone!
