The Payson Police Department has closed northbound Highway 87 at the Tyler Parkway roundabout due to snow and dangerous driving conditions north of town. Highway 260 east of Payson also remains closed. Chains and four wheel drive are recommended for anyone venturing out onto the roadways.
Highway 87 was closed at 3 p.m. after a winter storm moved into the Rim Country.
According to DPS, 15 vehicles slid off the roadway north of the Tonto Natural Bridge, however no one was seriously injured.
Other collisions were reported north of Strawberry on southbound Highway 87.
East of town on Highway 260, multiple commercial trucks blocked the highway all the way to Young, however, most of those had been cleared off by Thursday morning.
For DPS, it is a juggling act trying to cover the district. With only a few deputies and hundreds of miles of roadway, it is difficult to cover every accident.
Officials are recommending residents stay home until the roads are clear.
