Three Payson Residents Arrested On Drug Charges

Police say two adults were arrested on drug and child abuse charges after officers found two children living in a home with marijuana and drug paraphernalia and another adult was arrested on drug charges.

David Burris, 32 and Brisa Steffani, 25, both of Payson, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and child abuse.

Susan Cooley (Wicks), 42, also of Payson was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers with the Payson Police Department and the Gila County Narcotics Task Force made the arrests after obtaining a search warrant for a home in the 1100 block of South Mclane on Jan. 20.

Inside the home, officers found three quarters of an ounce of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including a scale, the PPD said in a press release.

Two children, ages 5 and 1, were removed from the home due to the drug activity and Child Protective Services was notified.

I have to say - I sure as heck hope they found more than 3/4 ounces of marijuana, otherwise this sounds like a complete waste and a black eye for our area cops. While I've never touched the stuff, I have friends who use for it pain relief and have friends who have been hooked on prescription drugs that doctors readily prescribed - stuff far stronger than what it appears that they found.
