Christy Vander Molen brings an extensive background of working with seniors to her new job as Payson Regional Senior Circle adviser.

The Payson Regional Health Outreach/Senior Circle has an enthusiastic new adviser in Christy Vander Molen. The Pine resident started work at the Circle Jan. 18.

Her background includes serving as regional marketing director for a network of skilled nursing facilities; marketing director for a life care community in Glendale; and most recently, developing, building and managing her own 10-unit assisted living residence in Scottsdale.

Vander Molen has been a part-time resident of Pine for the past four years, and now claims the little community to the north as her permanent home.

“I love working with seniors. It is extremely rewarding and I have learned so much from them,” she said.

Vander Molen wanted the Circle job because of the opportunity it presented to work in an industry that serves others and helps keep older adults active and informed.

While she has only been on the job a couple of weeks, she has discovered a surprise or two.

“Probably the most surprising thing is how the volunteers have been the driving force behind the program,” she said. Currently the Circle has 1,700 members.

Vander Molen said she has also been impressed that the Senior Circle program is sponsored by the Payson Regional Medical Center.

“You don’t find that in the big city,” she said.

She has also set a couple of goals for herself as Circle adviser. She wants to make the community more aware of all the programs the Circle offers and build up the merchant discount program that provides savings to Circle members.

The Circle has a variety of classes it provides, along with support services in the areas of physical and mental health, plus lectures from members of the Rim Country’s medical community.

As part of the national Senior Circle Association, the local chapter also provides access to additional benefits for its members, including an upcoming trip to Branson, Mo., May 15-23 for only $709 inclusive. Vander Molen said the cutoff to register is Feb. 15 and only 10 more seats remain.
