Village Is Slowly Getting Back To Normal

Here we go again! There is another round of storms coming this week. We are all hoping that there won’t be so much rain that we flood again! The ground is so saturated, it cannot hold anymore moisture. Snow would be better than rain at this point, it would melt slowly. Keep your fingers crossed.

The snow was a big draw for people from the Valley. This past weekend there were a few dozen cars along the Control Road. The kids were making snowmen and having a few snowball fights too. Some of the families had the saucers for sledding, and the kids had a great time.

Activities in the Village are slowly getting back to normal. It has been very slow because of the amount of snow we received. There are many driveways that have not been plowed out including the Hellsgate Fire Department’s back lot. Many of the meetings and the Domino Divas regular play day on Wednesdays have been put on hold for the time being.

The Hellsgate firefighters have offered their services to the residents of the Village and surrounding area for the people who cannot shovel their way out of their homes or are unable to shovel out their driveways. As I reported last week, the firefighters brought sandbags to our home and placed them for us. With all that the firefighters have done for so many people this winter, they are truly heroes!

You can call the Hellsgate Fire Station #22 and someone will get back to you. The number is (928) 478-0405.

George and Lucy Karrys were kind enough to help us shovel out our driveway. Their phone number is (928) 478-0231.

Thank you George and Lucy for being such good neighbors!

There will be a meeting of the Hellsgate Fire Board Feb. 10. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Tonto Village station #22. The meetings are always open to the public, and your comments are welcome.

Birthdays

A belated birthday greeting to Phyllis Mullen Ballard on Feb. 1. Phyllis is a former resident of the Village but still is a frequent visitor. Phyllis lived in the Village for many years and was a very successful real estate agent. As a matter of fact, Phyllis was instrumental in our purchase of the home we still live in. Happy birthday to you.

Another former resident, Lorraine “Bo” Mathews, will add another candle to her birthday cake. Her birthday is today, Feb. 5. Bo visits the Village occasionally. Both Phyllis and Bo played in the nine-ball pool tournaments held at the Double D every Tuesday. Happy birthday to you, Bo.

On Saturday, Feb. 6, Bill “Willie” Houdek will celebrate his birthday.

On Thursday, Feb. 11, Kara Shaw of Tonto Village III will have her big day.

Tim Ehrhardt of Mead Ranch also has his big day on Feb. 11.

Virginia Rankhorn of Tonto Village I will be celebrating her birthday Feb. 13.

Enjoy the love, laughter, and limelight that is yours on your birthday.

Super Bowl Sunday is this Sunday, and there will be a potluck party at the Double D starting in the late afternoon. No matter who you root for, the Saints or the Colts, it is always much more fun when you are with your friends and enjoy some good food.

The nine-ball gals managed to get to the Double D last Tuesday. In fact, 11 players showed up to compete in the tournament and a big surprise as Ross Tucker came sashaying into the pool room wearing a skirt! The gals have often said that no men were allowed unless they wore a dress. Well, Ross didn’t get to play because he came in too late, but the gals told him if he wore the skirt next week and came in on time, he could play.

The winners were Marie Leonard, Nanci Olson and Kara Shaw. Congratulations, girls.
