Federal Stimulus Money Goes To Buy Already Scheduled Items

An influx of $193,000 in federal stimulus funding will help the county complete energy efficiency projects that Public Works Director Steve Stratton said were already on the to-do list.

The jail in Globe will receive a $41,000 solar hot water heater.

The Payson administrative offices, as well as the Payson sheriff’s offices, will receive new air conditioning units.

Another building in Globe will receive new windows.

“Rather than going in the general fund when it’s tight, we felt like we should use this grant money,” Stratton told supervisors.

Supervisors said they thought the money presented a good use of stimulus dollars. Critics say the project is fraught with waste.
