Payson needs calm, rational approach

Editor:
This year we have four candidates in the Payson election for three council seats, three incumbents and a former town manager. All have experience in town government and no one seems to be disagreeing on town issues.
In voting we must therefore look at who would be the best candidates in taking the time and effort to think through and understand the future town challenges as they arise.
We don’t need someone who turns down free crossing lights for children, even after they were recommended by the school and town staff, without first looking into how the light could help traffic control as well as keep children safe.
When a speed study on Longhorn was requested, we don’t need a councilor calling those who suggested such, “morons.”
Our town mayor organizes his thoughts before he presents his ideas and councilor Ed Blair does his homework before his meeting. We need a calm, rational approach to the upcoming challenges.

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
