After searching throughout Northern Arizona for the right place to open his first used furniture store, Ken Maxfield settled on Payson’s Main Street for its charm and reasonable rent.
“I looked in Flagstaff and Prescott,” Maxfield said, “but the rental spaces were no good they were so expensive.”
When Maxfield saw the 1,800-square-foot space next to ReRuns was available, he knew he had found a home for the dozens of furniture and accessory items he had been collecting since June.
Maxfield, a 30-year hair stylist by trade, decided to open It’s New 2 You “on a whim.”
He explained he used to scourer estate sales and garage sales for furniture items for a friend’s shop in Wyoming. When he found a good piece, he would hand it over to his friend to sell.
Maxfield enjoyed the thrill of the hunt so much he decided to go into the business of selling used wares on his own.
On Jan. 4, Maxfield open It’s New 2 You, at 503 W. Main St.
His brother, Jerry Maxfield, runs the shop on a daily basis while Maxfield continues to cut hair and collect new merchandise for the store.
Although it is exhausting to collect used furniture throughout the week and then haul it up to Payson, Maxfield said he is so far enjoying being a business owner.
“Business has been good so far,” he said.
On top of fulfilling his entrepreneurial dreams, Maxfield said he is proud to be helping the local community’s economy as well as Main Street.
Payson’s Main Street offers an assortment of used clothing, art and antique stores with dental, physical and pet services sprinkled in between.
With the recent opening of MoJoe’s Cafe in ReRuns, next to It’s New 2 You, the street even has a place for shoppers to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee.

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
