Adelaide “Addie” Zezima Alleva celebrated her 101st birthday this week at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino with friends and family from Payson, Mesa and Tucson.
Mrs. Alleva was born Jan. 12, 1909 in New York City, the youngest daughter of nine children. At the age of 2, her family returned to Italy, where they remained until she was a teen.
She was educated in Settefrati, Italy.
Upon the family’s return to New York, Mrs. Alleva worked, and eventually married Alfred Alleva.
She remained in New York until 1975, and then moved to Glendale, Ariz.
She moved to Payson in 2009 to be closer to her nephew. Mrs. Alleva still lives alone and loves to cook and sew. She also enjoys an occasional trip to Mazatzal Casino.
