The mixer to celebrate the 52nd Hashknife Pony Express Mail Ride is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22 at the Buffalo Bar & Grill, 311 S. Beeline Highway. Admission is $3 for members of the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and $5 for nonmembers. During the event commemorative posters and more will be for sale and riders will be on hand to give autographs. The Hashknife Pony Express ride comes to town the afternoon of Jan. 27, riding down from Holbrook to the Payson Post Office. Last week representatives have been visiting area schools.

Free Chi session tonight
Penny Navis-Schmidt is presenting a free introductory session of Qigong at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Club USA.
Qigong (Chi Kung), often called Chinese Yoga, is an easily learned, moving meditation that can be practiced standing or seated, thus benefiting students of all ages and physical abilities.
Qigong for Health and Wellness classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 28 at 9:30 a.m.

Fry Bread for Families event
A Fry Bread for Families event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20 at the southwest corner of Mazatzal Hotel & Casino (the old restaurant).
The cost is $5 for Fry Bread and a drink. The choice of Fry Bread can be plain, powdered sugar and honey, bean and cheese or an Apache Taco. The funds raised from the event are going to help families in the Rim Country.
There were four Fry Bread events in 2009, which made it possible to help 10 families this past holiday season.
Override committee meets
The override committee, Payson Kids Count, organized to help pass the Payson Unified School District override, meets at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Payson Senior Center, 512 W. Main St. The meeting will start at 4 p.m. in order to get participants out by 5 p.m.

Wrestling benefit dinner postponed
The annual benefit Spaghetti Dinner, hosted by the Payson High School wrestling program, has been postponed. Originally scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 21, the dinner will now be held Thursday, Jan. 28 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Rim Country Middle School cafeteria.
This is the 21st year the event has been held with the help of Mark Fumusa and the wonderful folks of Pine and Strawberry.
The dinner is postponed because of the projected bad weather for Jan. 21. Organizers feel it would be better to postpone the dinner for everyone?s safety.
Tickets are $6 per person and $20 for families; they are available from members of the wrestling program and will be sold at the door.

January mixer
The Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce January Mixer is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21 at the Payson Public Library. It is sponsored by the Library Friends of Payson. Admission is $3 for chamber members and $5 for nonmembers. There will be refreshments and door prizes.
Cooking class
A Creative Cooking Solutions class will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21 at the LDS Church, 913 S. Ponderosa St. The class subject will be making cheese or yogurt from whole or powdered milk.

Education center open house
The Payson Education Center will have an open house from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21.
The PEC is an alternative high school serving students in Payson and the surrounding areas. It is located at 112 W. Cedar Lane. Light refreshments will be served.

PHS plays
The Payson High School drama department will present one-act plays at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 23 and at 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22 at Payson High School auditorium.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and students in the first through 12th grades, and $3 for students wearing purple and gold.
