With less than a month left in the Payson Area Food Drive, organizers are stepping up collections and asking for renewed support from the community.
So far, volunteers have collected 32,300 pounds of food — more than half of their 50,000-pound goal — and nearly $15,000, just $5,000 shy of their $20,000-goal in financial donations.
However, with the holidays over and food collection boxes no longer overflowing, organizers want to remind the public that food banks are still helping needy families struggling to make it through a tough economic time.
Several events are planned over the next three weeks before the food drive ends.
Late next week, 75 Boy Scouts will drop bags off on doorsteps throughout town in hopes of collecting at least 7,500 pounds of food.

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
