A campaign is under way for used coats and socks that are clean and in good condition. This collection is to benefit less fortunate local children of all ages. Drop-off points are at Payson Galleria, The Sock Room and Appliances Plus. If you know a child who needs a coat, please call (928) 978-1774. Donations will be accepted until Jan. 31.

Pony Express mixer set

The mixer to celebrate the 52nd Hashknife Pony Express Mail Ride is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22 at the Buffalo Bar & Grill, 311 S. Beeline Highway. Admission is $3 for members of the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and $5 for nonmembers.

The Hashknife Pony Express ride comes to town the afternoon of Jan. 27, riding down from Holbrook to the Payson Post Office.

Wade Hammond concert

Wade Hammond will present a concert at First Southern Baptist Church of Payson Sunday, Jan. 24. Hammond will lead the morning service. He is a Dove award nominee and has appeared on TBN, The Miracle Channel, and has also recorded with some of the Gaither Homecoming Friends. Hammond sings in small to mega churches and comes to Payson without asking for a set fee. He strictly comes by way of love offering. His stories will make you laugh and make you cry and his music will touch your heart.

‘Edline’ workshop

The Rim Country Middle School Community Involvement Team is offering an “Edline” workshop from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25. The workshop is designed for parents and guardians of middle and high school students. This is a hands-on workshop where parents and guardians will learn how to keep abreast of their student’s progress and assignments.

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick’s staff in Payson Tuesday

In an effort to ensure that voices from across the district can be heard in Washington, staff members for the office of Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick will be hosting open office hours in Payson Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Members of the Congresswoman’s staff will be holding regular office hours at the Board of Supervisors Office, 610 E. Highway 260, on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.

Coffee with CASA

The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program will have an open house from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the CASA office, 714 S. Beeline Highway, Ste. 201.

The purpose of the open house is to provide those interested with information about volunteering as a child advocate and the impact they can have for a child in foster care. There will be free coffee and treats courtesy of Scoops.

Bereavement workshop

The bereavement workshop series presented by Hospice Compassus will have Workshop 2, “Coping with Loss — When Will I Get Through This?” at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Good Samaritan Society Majestic Rim, which is hosting the program. Guerilla Tactics 2010

The Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Gila County Small Business Development Center will again offer their popular “Guerilla Tactics” program.

This year, due to the increasing popularity of Web sites, the program, “Developing the Web Presence” will focus on the development, creation and optimization of Web sites.

The programs will be held at the Central Arizona Board of Realtors meeting room, 600 E. Highway 260, Ste H, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the last Wednesday of the month, January through June. The faculty for the event will be Michael Rose and Cameron Davis. The cost for the six sessions is $50 for chamber members and $60 for nonmembers. The meetings are as follows:

• Jan. 27 - Introduction & Planning the Web Site

• Feb. 24 - How to effectively create and optimize your website

• March 24 - Search engine optimization linking strategies

• April 28 - Attracting the online customer

• May 26 - How to drive traffic to your website

• June 23 - Quantifying the measure of success

These sessions will be taped for later downloading. Register at the chamber or online at www.rimcountrychamber.com. The class will be limited to 50 participants due to space.
