Village gets first taste of week’s winter storms

Tonto Village got the first taste of the bad weather that will be upon us all this week. Snow accumulation amounted to about four inches since Monday morning. The Village looked like a winter wonderland with snow on the ponderosa pine trees. The snow looked like icing on the limbs. As Bill was shoveling out our driveway, we remarked that it would not be a good idea to be in the forest right now, there was so much snow falling as the temperature was rising. It would not be any fun to be hit with a big chunk of snow. As we were talking about it, the electricity went off. I called APS right away, and so did some of my neighbors. It is important to call so that the repairmen can better pinpoint where the outage is. The local number is (928) 474-2204. Keep this number handy.

A huge thank you to the APS crew that repaired the lines within two hours of the break.

Linda Digman, the secretary at the Christopher-Kohl’s fire station, told me that the crew was “already on the site,” which was on Highway 260 and the Bear Flat road. A tree had fallen and broken the power lines. Linda also said that Highway 260 was closed to traffic except for four-wheel drive vehicles and ones with chains from Star Valley up to the Rim.

A big thank you to the Gila County maintenance crew for a quick response to clear the streets in the Village. Thanks again for the excellent response in plowing the streets. They were right on the job early Tuesday morning. Thanks again for an excellent job.

Please remember that there is an ordinance that states that there be no vehicles on the side of the street until the winter is over. Please remove any vehicles that will hinder the snowplow from plowing your street.
