Rim Country Offers Tributes, Fireworks This Weekend


The Fourth of July in Rim Country is not all about the fireworks. There are all kinds of events taking place from Friday, July 2 through Sunday, July 4. But, of course, a big fireworks display at Green Valley Park will top off the weekend at 9 p.m. Sunday.

Here is a list of some of the other events taking place around the Rim Country for the holiday weekend:

• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, July 2 — Pine Library Friends are having a book sale at the Library Activity Room (also from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 3 and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 4)

• 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, July 2 — Anniversary celebration at Payson Community Presbyterian Church, a Decadent Dessert Bash plus live music

• 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, July 2 — First Friday events on Main Street (artist’s reception at Artists of the Rim Gallery, Brandon Shepherd at Bootleg Alley, Rim Literacy benefit at Down the Street, crafters all along the street

• 7 p.m., Friday, July 2 — Moto X Maddness, Payson Event Center (also at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 3)

• 8 a.m., Saturday, July 3 (to 5 p.m.) and Sunday, July 4 (to 4 p.m.) — The Pine-Strawberry Arts & Crafts Guild Arts & Crafts Craft Show at the Pine Community Center, with breakfast by the Pine Strawberry Fire Department and Strawberry’s Elite group

• 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 3 — Craft fair on old Main

• 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 3 — Lemonade stands for Gracie Lee Haught Memorial Fund at businesses throughout community

• 5 p.m., Saturday, July 3 — 2nd Annual Payson Hometown Patriotic Parade down Historic Main Street

• 7 p.m., Saturday, July 3 — Concert Under the Stars with Higher Power Band, Green Valley Park amphitheater

• 8 a.m., Sunday, July 4 — Patriotic Tribute at Green Valley Park

• 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, July 4 — Green Valley Park will be the site for kids’ games including sack races, a water balloon toss and tug of war, plus the 2nd Annual Payson Arizona Foot Races

• 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 4 — music, food and more at Community Presbyterian Church

• 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, July 4 — Live Music from John Carpino and the Hot Cappuccinos (4 p.m. to 6 p.m.), and the band Johnny Anonymous (7 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

• 9 p.m., Sunday, July 4 — Fireworks over Green Valley Park (more than 45 minutes)

• 1 p.m., Sunday, July 4 — Tonto Village quad parade and a Kid ’n Kritters contest; parade will start at the first set of mailboxes
