The Fleagle and Kilbourne families had a great time decorating the float for the July 4 Kids ’n’ Kritters Parade in Tonto Village. Riders on the float were Duane Fleagle, Sherre’ Fleagle, Jake Fleagle, Reed Fleagle, Daryl Kilbourne, Anne Kilbourne, Crista and Tucker Kilbourne.

I hope that it was a great weekend for everyone. The weather was perfect for outdoor activities and enjoying a barbecue with family and friends.

The Double D Restaurant and Bar was packed to the hilt on Sunday with everyone waiting for the parade and to listen to Lynda St. John play on the patio. I goofed last week and I mistakenly said James not John. Sorry Lynda!

Ethel Cain was the leading vehicle for the parade down Johnson Boulevard. There were a number of quads that made their way down the boulevard along with a great float made up by Daryl Kilbourne of Tonto Village III. Daryl’s wife Ann along with Dwayne Fleagle, and about four more were on the float. Even though it was a short parade, it did not lack for enthusiasm.

Birthdays

Laverne Belcher of Bear Flat starts off this next week with a birthday on July 11 along with my Beagle’s first mom, Ann Henning of Heber.

On July 14, Janice Long of Long Ranch on the Control Road adds another candle to her birthday cake. Sam Coe of Tonto Village II celebrates his big day on July 15. Nick Fitch of Tonto Village III and a vital member of the Hellsgate Fire Department has his big day on July 16. Remember, the importance of birthdays is not how many you’ve had, but rather how well you’ve celebrated. Happy birthday to all of you.

Pool tournaments

Tuesday evening the nine-ball gals gathered at the Double D for their weekly competition. Betty Koutz came out to be the winner shooting for first place. Judy Tolle of Christopher Creek shot for second place and a new player, Sharon Marksbury of Kohl’s Ranch came in third.

Sunday afternoon the players gathered to shoot eight-ball after a long dry spell of not enough players. The first-place winner was a fellow from the Valley named Jimmy (didn’t get a last name.) The second-place winner was Judy Tolle and third place went to Peter Spiece of Tonto Village III. Congratulations to all the winners.

Hellsgate Fire Department

A monthly meeting of the fire board is scheduled for Wednesday, July 14. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Tonto Village station #22.

Summer hours for the administrative office are now in effect. The office will be open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

If you are a subscriber of Facebook, Hellsgate Fire Department is now on the Web site. Type in Hellsgatefire.org for more information and pictures of past events.

A reminder that Tonto National Forest is still under fire restrictions until further notice. No open fires are permitted. The forest is in extreme fire danger and one little spark can have a devastating consequence.
