Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism officials will conduct interviews July 15 to find a replacement for former recreation coordinator Joseph Harris who resigned in mid-June to accept a similar position in Los Alamos, N.M.
P&R office manager Mary Wolf said the list of finalists for the job included some very qualified candidates who have the ability to step in and pick up where Harris left off.
“Our goal is to get the new person on the job as soon as possible.”
Since Harris’ resignation, Mary McMullen has taken over his responsibilities. McMullen is doing double duty because she is also the town’s trails and outdoor recreation coordinator.
The new recreation coordinator will plan and oversee all the sport, recreation and leisure programs the department offers to both youths and adults.
The programs include a myriad of activities such as a sand volleyball league, NFL Youth Flag Football, a pitch, hit and run baseball competition, coed softball, youth tumbling and the popular British Soccer Camps.
In resigning, Harris said he was leaving “to further my education and for economic stability,” he said. “I will miss Payson, the town has been very good to me and my family.”
Harris had been a Town of Payson employee just months shy of three years and describes Los Alamos as a town very similar to Payson.
“The weather and the scenery is very much the same,” he said early this week. “But my family and I sure do miss the old town.”
