Bob and Cindy Maack once again sponsored the annual “Let’s Get Trashed Party” on Saturday, July 10.
Participants were asked to comb the forest trails between Pine and Strawberry, removing litter and other debris left behind by people who don’t respect our forest as much as we do. Many participants steered their ATVs through hard to reach places, accumulating huge hauls!
While the festivities began at 2 p.m., people started early. We had those that arrived hauling huge truck fulls of garbage. It was quite the dump pile when all was said and done!
Of special mention are the couples that actually climbed down the cliff toward the top of Hardscrabble Road heading into the forest. This cliff has a pull out, and is quite the scenic view, until one looks over the ledge and sees everything from old mattresses to office equipment. We thank those who scaled the mountain and retrieved all they were able.
Of special mention are Tina and Eric Benjamin, Rob and Linda, Todd and Terry Hamelin, Dave and Becky Richins, Rick and Barbra for hauling in the most trash.
All of the trash accumulators were treated to an early dinner of sloppy joes, potato salad, cole slaw and chips courtesy of Ponderosa Market.
Live entertainment was provided by Rico the One Man Show and our friends “The River People” from Gisela.
A very special thanks to Waste Management for donating the Dumpsters, and to Sam and Mike Sibley of Pine Village Bakery for supplying icy cold keg beer, sodas and water.
This annual effort clearly demonstrates that the Pine/Strawberry communities are dedicated to keeping our forest litter free! Thank you to all that made the 2010 annual “Let’s Get Trashed” function a truly successful event!

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
