Fire Restrictions Lifted On Kaibab National Forest

Beginning Wednesday at 8 a.m., officials will remove campfire and smoking restrictions on the Kaibab National.

Recent rain along with higher humidity and increased fuel moistures has lowered fire danger on the forest, thus decreasing the risk of major wildfires, the forest service said. The National Weather Service expects the current monsoon pattern to remain in place over Northern Arizona.

“Although campfires and smoking will be allowed throughout the forest, people should never leave a campfire unattended, always extinguish fires completely before leaving the forest, and dispose of cigarettes in ash trays. Remember, it is everyone’s responsibility to practice fire safety and prevent human-caused fires,” said Kaibab Deputy Fire Staff Officer Doug Ottosen.

Some campfire restrictions may remain in effect in other areas. Call the nearest land management office for current information.
