Concert Under the Stars

The 2010 Concert Under the Stars series concludes this weekend with a performance by the Payson Jazz Trio with guest guitarist John Darst.

The concert, in the amphitheater area of Green Valley Park, will be at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 24. No admission is charged and vendor booths open at 6 p.m.

Gospel concert

Attend Ozarks in Concert, featuring pure gospel music at 6 p.m., Sunday, July 25 at the Star Valley Southern Baptist Church, 4180 E. Highway 260, Star Valley.

Benefit bingo at Elks

The Payson Elks Lodge is having a special benefit bingo game, open to the public Saturday, July 31. Ticket sales start at 8 a.m., with the games beginning at 9 a.m.

All proceeds will go to the Arizona Elks Association Social Welfare Committee for its Cloth-a-Child and Community Grant Programs.

The benefit bingo game is in conjunction with the Social Welfare Charity Golf Tournament.

The Payson Elks Lodge is located at 1206 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.

Princess Tea Party

Young ladies of the Rim Country are invited to a Princess Tea Party at the Payson Public Library. Join us for tea (iced) and snacks, fun games, and great prizes. Play dress up and walk our Fashion Runway Show. Two tea parties will be hosted, one for each age group. The party for those ages 4 to 7 will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7; and the party for young ladies ages 8 to 12 is from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21. Each gathering is limited to 25 girls and only one sign-up per child. Sign-up in the children’s room or call Harryette at (928) 474-9260 to reserve a spot.

Parade entries sought

The August Doin’s Rodeo Parade, Ropin’ and Ridin’, will be held Saturday, Aug. 21 on Historic Main Street in Payson. The parade is sponsored by the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and APS.

The fun will start at 9 a.m., when the cowboys and cowgirls will strut their stuff, along with the floats, cars, tractors, teams, bands and units of the El Zaribah Shriners. The parade will go east from Green Valley Park to Sawmill Crossing.

For parade applications, please stop by the chamber office at the corner of Highway 87 and West Main Street, or go online to www.rimcountrychamber.com. Applications are due by Aug. 14.

Gun and Knife Show

The ninth annual Payson Gun and Knife Show, presented by Firing Pin Enterprises, Inc. at the Tonto-Apache Gymnasium is Saturday, Aug. 7 and Sunday, Aug. 8.

Vendors from several Western states will be in attendance to buy, sell and trade. New, used and antique firearms, knives and related Western memorabilia will be available to see, touch and buy. Also on hand will be ammunition, books, coins and variety of shooting, hunting, and outdoor accessories.

The public may bring firearms and related items to sell, trade or have appraised. All applicable local, state and federal laws will be observed.

Gun show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 8.

Awakening Earth Expo

There will be an Awakening Earth Expo in Pine on Aug. 7 and Aug. 8 this year. This is the second year that the expo has been held in Pine and the focus of the event is learning techniques and practices that enhance conservation and lessen environmental impact.

There will be many vendors providing organic products, alternative medical solutions, and artwork, plus information about gardening, water conservation, solar energy and much more.

Citizens Leadership Academy

Applications are due for the 2010 Citizens Leadership Academy at Town Hall by July 30. The Payson Citizens Leadership Academy 2010 will be Sept. 7 through Oct. 26, meeting mostly on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
