The Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department will present a special Monsoon Outdoor Photography Class from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 5 at the parks office in Green Valley Park, 1000 W. Country Club Dr. Learn simple techniques with instructor Dennis Fendler. The class will include a short indoor presentation starting at 4 p.m., followed by a walk around Green Valley Park for hands-on photography practicing what you’ve learned. The fee to participate is $15 per person and the registration deadline is Monday, Aug. 2. Register at the Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Office at 1000 W. Thrift store sale
The Pine/Strawberry Thrift Store, 3916 N. Highway 87, in downtown Pine is having all Hawaiian clothes sale, offering any tropical print item at $3 per garment or two garments for $5 from July 28 to July 31.
Household items and toys also will be on sale at 50 percent off marked prices.
The Christmas in July sale will be continued through the end of the month.
The store is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Poetry writers wanted
East West Exchange Books and award-winning poet, Amie Claire Doggett, are hosting a new poetry club at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 28.
Writers are invited to bring their poetry to read. And those who love poetry are encouraged to bring something they love to read — or just come to listen.

Gatherings will continue the fourth Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at East West Exchange Books.

Shred-A-Thon
There will be a Payson Shred-A-Thon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, July 30 — or until the truck is full, whichever comes first. Dispose of sensitive documents onsite in the parking lot of the old Foxworth-Galbraith location, 202 N. Beeline Highway.
The cost per bankers box (10”x12”x15”) is $6 (cash or check). Other sized boxes may be used, but the cost will be estimated based on volume. TNT Shredding will donate part of the proceeds to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Payson.
This event is sponsored by the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Payson, and TNT Shredding.

Citizen’s Leadership Academy registration due
Payson Citizen’s Leadership Academy 2010 will be Sept. 7 through Oct. 26, meeting mostly on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Applications are due to Town Hall by July 30.

There is a bounty of fresh-picked produce and a large variety of artisan foods to round out any meal at the Payson Farmers Market, which is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday. Benefit Bingo at Elks
The Payson Elks Lodge is having a special benefit Bingo game, open to the public Saturday, July 31. Ticket sales start at 8 a.m., with the games beginning at 9 a.m.
All proceeds will go to the Arizona Elks Association Social Welfare Committee for its Clothe-a-Child & Community Grant Programs. The benefit Bingo game is in conjunction with the Social Welfare Charity Golf Tournament.
The Payson Elks Lodge is at 1206 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.
