What’S Going On With The Town?

Editor:

On May 18 Pete Aleshire wrote in the Roundup that the town council met in executive session to offer a buyout package to Town Attorney Sam Streichman ... this was “intended to reduce payroll costs.” Streichman’s position will be filled by Deputy Town Attorney Tim Wright.

Mr. Aleshire went on to say that “Payson remains one of the few small towns with two full-time attorneys on staff. Few small towns have even a single attorney. Most towns contract with independent law firms for legal advice.”

Imagine my surprise when I saw the following classified ad in the May 28th Roundup.

“Town of Payson is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Prosecutor I. $4,767-$7,150/mo plus excellent benefits.”

I went to the Town’s Web site and under legal department noted that in addition to Mr. Wright, we have Mrs. Stover and Ms. Balestrere on staff. It is interesting to note that the Town prosecutor does not handle felony cases ... only town misdemeanors.
