To encourage a shared sense of wonder and stewardship, the Forest Service announces two fee free weekends during the summer of 2010.
These weekends will be offered in cooperation with other agencies under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (REA), the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Bureau of Land Management.
The first fee waiver weekend will celebrate National Trails Day on June 5-6. The second weekend will honor the back-to-school season on August 14-15.
For these weekends, day use fees will be waived at all standard amenity fee sites operated by the Forest Service including the Red Rock Pass.
As part of this national celebration, fees will be waived for the entire Red Rock Pass area including Palatki and Honanki Ruins, V Bar B Cultural Site and approximately 300 miles of multiple-use trails.
Areas not included in the fee waiver program are campgrounds and recreation areas managed under concession contract, such as Call of the Canyon, Grasshopper Point and Crescent Moon Ranch.
The Forest Service is honoring these two fee waiver weekends in addition to the traditional fee waiver days – National Public Lands Day and Veterans Day, for four fee waiver events in 2010.
