The 2010 Relay for Life Committee would like to thank all of our sponsors, participants and the members of the community who helped make this year’s American Cancer Society fund-raising event such a success in these difficult times.
The event, which took place at the high school track over the night of June 4/5, raised in excess of $30,000 toward cancer research and patient services such as wig programs, transportation and accommodation assistance for family members visiting hospitals.
This year’s event could not have been successful without our sponsors who donated so much to the cause either financially or “in kind” with equipment and other items. Thanks to Mazatzal Hotel & Casino, KC’s Home Health Care, Hospice Compassus, Majestic Mountain Inn, Payson Dental Care, Edward Jones/Ross Hage, Payson Eye Care, Payson Glass, Sunstate Equipment Rentals, Payson Concrete, Payson Roundup, Waste Matters, Walmart, KMOG, Fletcher’s Tire, The Mustang Shop in Chandler, The Pizza Factory, Scout Troop #7354 and leader Jeff Leonard, Cousins Subs for providing dinner for the cancer survivors, Tim Hilgendorf for putting on breakfast at sunrise.
Of course, not much would have happened without the teams who walked through the night and raised funds through a variety of activities both before and during the event. We heartily thank them.
We give thanks to the Payson Military Honor Guard for performing the flag ceremony at the opening, their presence was much appreciated by all who were there, also Pastor David Rennick for his inspiring invocation.
Others who made things work smoothly included the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce for the loan of equipment; the Payson Police Department for its very low-key, but valuable, presence; the town building department. for the loan of traffic cones; APS for providing trash receptacles, the United Methodist Church for the use of their facility for our organizational meetings, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for use of their copy machine and last, but not least, the Payson High School administration for the use of their facility and PUSD Maintenance Department for their considerable assistance, tolerance and good humor working with us.
This community so frequently comes together to help others in need, and this event was yet another example of what is so good about Payson and the surrounding communities. We are still accepting donations through the end of August, go to our Web site www.relayforlife .org/paysonaz to donate.
