The 4th Annual Rim Country Open — Arizona Disc Golf Tournament is at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, June 19 at Rumsey Park Ramada 3. Registration is taking place now. The fee varies depending on participant category. Forms are available at the parks office in Green Valley Park or online at www.payson parks.com.

PEC enrollment packets are now available

The Payson Education Center has enrollment packets available and is accepting enrollment applications for the 2010-2011 school year.

The Payson Education Center is a public alternative high school serving students in grades 9-12. It is located at 112 W. Cedar Lane in Payson. School begins Aug. 11.

Free classes offered at East-West grand opening

The grand opening of East-West Exchange is Wednesday, June 16 through Saturday, June 19. Classes in yoga and ballroom dance will be offered free for those four days. There will also be free demonstration/sample classes of tai chi and ninjutsu on Saturday. On Wednesday, author Georgia Whitten will hold a children’s story time as she reads from her children’s book, The Cautious Coyote Family at 1 p.m.

KMOG will be doing a live remote from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday and The Pizza Factory will provide free pizza for attendees.

La Boutique sale 

The La Boutique Gift Shop will be holding a sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, June 17 and Friday, June 18 in the main lobby of the Payson Regional Medical Center.

There will be lots of stuffed animals and holiday items including Christmas, Easter and Halloween. 

All proceeds from the sale go to support the many programs and scholarships offered by the Mogollon Health Alliance.  For more information, call the MHA at (928) 472-2588.

Fry Bread for Families

Tonto Apache Tribal Enterprises and its employees are having a fry bread sale to raise funds for families from the Payson community. Donate a new backpack (with school supplies if possible) or contribute $5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, June 17 at the southwest corner of the old restaurant at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino. Choose from plain, honey and powdered sugar, bean and cheese or an Apache Taco fry bread, plus a drink.

Chamber mixer

The National Bank of Arizona and Macky’s Grill are hosting the June 17 Chamber Mixer, which will feature special guest recording artist Candyce of Payson.

The mixer is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday at National Bank of Arizona, on the southwest corner of Highway 87 and West Main. There will be special door prizes from many of the merchants at Sawmill Crossing, a 50-50 drawing and more, with proceeds to benefit Payson Little League. The cost is $3 for chamber members and $5 for non-members.

June 18 Friday

Benefit yard sale

A yard sale will benefit the “Rim Country Tatas” so they can participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-day for Cancer Cure, which takes place in the Valley in November.

The sale will be at 910 Manzanita Dr., on the corner of Easy Street from 7 a.m. to noon, Friday, June 18 and Saturday, June 19. There will be lots of miscellaneous, along with car parts, a silver spoon collection, a crochet bedspread and the odds and ends from three families.

Author is guest speaker

International author Charles Hall will be at Payson Center for Spiritual Awareness on Friday, June 18 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A suggested donation of $10 is requested at the door.

Hall is a physicist and was enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed in at the Mohave Wells Base in Nevada he had the chance to witness alien technology and visitors from another solar system. There were generals and top pentagon officials present interested in trading technology. These stories are slow to surface, but Charles has a remarkable memory and he has published his account in a series of books called the Millennial Hospitality Series.

Rotary induction ceremony reservations due today

An Induction Ceremony of the new Rotary District Governor Glenn Smith for Rotary District 5510 is planned for 3:30 p.m., Sunday June 27. The ceremony includes a barbecue for everyone at $15 per plate, those planning to attend need to select a chicken or steak dinner by June 18. The event will be at Ramada 5 in Rumsey Park with both the Rotary Club of Rim Country Payson and the Payson Rotary Club serving as hosts. There will be fun and games, plus music provided by Fred the DJ (aka new Payson Town Councilor Fred Carpenter).

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Payson Supply Line for its ongoing grassroots efforts to send some of the comforts of home to military personnel in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Community Flea Market

There will be a Community Flea Market from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 19 at 800 West Main Street. Rent 10-foot-by-19-foot spaces for just $10; renters must provide their own awning and chairs, but may sell whatever they wish and keep the proceeds. Setup must be completed before 7 a.m. that morning. Call (928) 474-2059 weekdays between 9 a.m. and noon for information.

Payson Farmers Market

Schnepf Farms will be one of the vendors at the Payson Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 19. Schnepf Farms is the largest peach farm in the state, so expect to find a variety of peaches, plus plums and apples. However, it is expected this vendor will only participate this Saturday and next.

The Payson Farmers Market is now at 816 S Beeline Hwy., behind Chili’s.

Disc golf tourney

Run for the Bridge

Join a poker run Saturday, June 19 to raise money to help keep Tonto Natural Bridge operating.

Sponsored by Tony G’s Sidewinders Saloon in Pine, the event goal is to help raised the $7,000 needed to keep Tonto Natural Bridge State Park open through September.

Bikes and cage (cars) can participate. The fee is $25 per couple or $15 per person. Win $300 with the best hand and $150 with the lowest hand. There will also be a 50-50 drawing, raffles and a silent auction. Entertainment will be by The John Scott Band starting at 12:30 p.m. at Sidewinders.

Register between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. at Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce in Payson, at the corner of Highway 87 and West Main St. or at Sidewinders Saloon at the corner of Highway 87 and Hardscrabble Road in Pine.

Stops for the run are the Buffalo Bar & Grill, Payson; Long Valley Café; Sportsman Chalet; Happy Jack Lodge; and ending at Sidewinders.

Spaghetti Dinner

The Order of the Eastern Star will have a spaghetti dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, June 19 at the Masonic Lodge, 200 E. Rancho Road

The menu will include spaghetti with meat or meatless sauce; salad, garlic bread, a dessert and coffee, lemonade, or ice tea. The cost is $6.50 for those 12 and older and $3.25 for those under 12.

Concert Under the Stars

Enjoy the energetic country music of Cody Gibson and Code Blue will be featured at the June 19 Concert Under the Stars in the Green Valley Park Amphitheater. Vendor booths open at 6 p.m., the music begins at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy another wonderful night in the Rim Count
