I read your letter with keen interest, Tyler. Your letter describes the Payson High School students I have met over the past 10 years. You are characteristic of drive, energy and goal-oriented young men and women I have had the pleasure of knowing in the classroom. Never be discouraged by the naysayers out there; they are but a temporary distraction that will always fail to dampen youth’s motivation to succeed.
I am a retired senior who will always have time for that student like you, because I am passing the torch to a generation represented by students such as yourself. Most in my generation fully support hard-working, hard-charging students like you in many unadvertised ways.
I think the big reason for our encouragement is because your letter personifies the same tough times that we went through in your shoes shoes. Our parents, teachers and community leaders provided a lot of the challenge and drilled into us the work ethic needed to succeed. They set for us living examples of what it takes to succeed in this life. I still remember the names of my high school teachers who left an indelible mark on my life.
As a junior, you are off to an enviable start in life. Keep your eyes on the stars and never be deterred in your journey to succeed in what it is you wish to accomplish. You will encounter roadblocks along the way. They will only strengthen your resolve. I just wanted you to know that I’ve accepted your challenge to support our youth long ago and find it to be a continuing process.
