After closing her bookkeeping and tax services business four years ago, Barbara Hartwell thought she was retiring into the good life. For some 30 years, Hartwell, who is also a Star Valley council member, had worked hard running her own bookkeeping business in both California and Arizona.

After retiring, Hartwell joined partner Ray Lyons in managing Star Vale Mobile Home Park and Terrace Homes in Star Valley. Unfortunately, Lyons and Hartwell recently lost the park.

Hartwell realized that without the park to keep her busy, she was bored in her retirement and needed something to do.

On June 8, Hartwell reopened Tax and Bookkeeping Services, LLC in the Twin Pines Shopping Center, 512 S. Beeline, suite 8.

Hartwell provides businesses, both large and small, all levels of bookkeeping, from weekly, monthly or quarterly payroll and tax services to federal and state reporting.

Hartwell said she tailors her business to what a client needs. Some business owners provide their own bookkeeping, but need help with payroll.

“Payroll is my specialty,” she said. “With my knowledge, I can keep a business out of trouble (with payroll).”

Although she does not hold a degree, Hartwell has worked in the tax field since 1973. Hartwell said she has more than adequate expertise and can do almost anything a CPA can do, excluding licensing.

“I have years of experience and am conscientious and knowledgeable,” she said.

Currently, Tax and Bookkeeping Services is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. As her business grows, Hartwell plans to open five to six days a week, especially during tax season.

Hartwell is also available by appointment. Call (928) 478-7155, for more information.
