Artists of the Rim Gallery will feature the jewelry of Mina Cavanaugh during July.

Summer rec program

Register children today for the second session of the Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department’s Summer Recreation Program, being held Monday-Thursday, July 5 -July 22.

Children will participate in inside and outside games, do arts and crafts, go on field trips, walk to the parks and have a snack all under the supervision of certified teachers and their assistants. A new and exciting addition to the program this year is the involvement of the Payson Police and Fire Departments, which will be putting on special programs and activities for the children on various days in each session.

Hours of the program are from 8 a.m. to noon and the cost is $75 per child, which includes a daily snack. Space is limited, so register today at the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Office at 1000 W. Country Club Dr., or online at

Payson Farmer’s Market

The Payson Farmer’s Market is at Sawmill Crossing on Beeline Highway, it will be in front of the movie theater and behind Chili’s. The market is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday through October.

Parade entries sought

The August Doin’s Rodeo Parade — Ropin’ and Ridin’ — will be held Saturday, Aug. 21 on Historic Main Street in Payson Arizona. The parade is sponsored by the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and APS. It will include the famous APS clowns and many other great entries from all over Arizona.

The fun will start at 9 a.m., when the cowboys and cowgirls will strut their stuff, along with the floats, cars, tractors, teams, bands and units of the El Zaribah Shriners. The parade will go east from Green Valley Park to Sawmill Crossing. Announcers along the route will keep you posted on the coming entries, and provide music for your entertainment. 

So, bring a lawn chair and enjoy a great morning with some fabulous entertainment, antique cars, clowns, horses, and help Rim Country celebrate August Doin’s.

Concert Under the Stars

Southern Comfort will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 26 on the bandstand in the amphitheater of Green Valley Park. The group is comprised of seasoned musicians who play country music, southern rock and pop from the 1980s and 1990s.

Vendors begin selling at 6 p.m. There is no admission for the concert, but bring a lawn chair or blanket as seating is limited to a few picnic tables and benches.

Guest jeweler on First Friday

Mina Cavanaugh, is guest artist at Artists of the Rim Gallery during July. The gallery, at 408 W. Main, will be featuring her jewelry crafted from heirloom silver. There will be a reception in her honor at First Friday on Main Street July 2 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Mazatzal Casino Arts & Crafts Fair

The Mazatzal Casino Arts & Crafts Fair is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 17 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, July 18.

Artisans will be coming from New Mexico, Prescott and the Valley as well. The fair will be featuring jewelry of all kinds created from silver, Swarovski crystals and one-of-a-kind beads; pottery, oil paintings, gourds, new style totes, creative water colors, scarves, rugs, children’s crayon aprons, dolls, afghans, needlework, angels and more.
