I hope all you dads enjoyed the perfect weather while celebrating Father’s Day with your kids. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day and it seemed that many folks in the area were out riding quads, fishing, swimming, camping, and of course, grilling.
Summer has officially started, and supposedly, monsoon season. Somehow choosing a specific date rather than allowing the conditions to dictate the beginning of the season seems to have made it a non-issue, which, according to the powers that be, is exactly what they were trying to avoid. Theoretically choosing a set date prompts people to get ready for the powerful monsoon storms which come each summer when the conditions are right. However, it seems to me it has barely created a yawn. For some reason, it is most folks’ nature to wait to act until we are compelled to do so. So when you begin to see the clouds building on the horizon, remember to go get those new windshield wipers!
Community Health Fair
Don’t forget the Pine-Strawberry Community Health Fair takes place from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., tomorrow, June 26 at the Community Center in the heart of Pine. You can have your blood pressure and/or oxygen level tested for free, or pay a small fee for diabetes screening, cholesterol levels, kidney and liver functioning, cardiac tests, and much more.
There will be many professionals on hand to assist you and answer questions you may have about health issues.
The event is sponsored by SCAF, Dr. York, Pine-Strawberry Fire District & Firefighters Association, Payson Care Center and Hospice Compassus.
Could it be possible that we are only a week away from the 4th of July? If you plan to celebrate Independence Day in the Rim Country, be sure to head to the ramada at the heart of Pine where you’ll find the arts and crafts guild hosting a huge crafts bazaar. There is literally something for everyone available — all very high-quality items, so be sure to head to the Community Center for this fun event.
The friends of the Isabelle Hunt Memorial Public Library are busy preparing for their next huge book sale over the 4th of July weekend as well. The entire Library Activity Room is filled with a variety of books of all genres. If you are an avid reader, you’ll surely find something to interest you.
Have you ever thought that you might like to be part of the Pine Library Friends? Well here’s your chance. They will be holding a potluck at the Library Activity Room (behind the Cultural Hall and playground at the Community Center) on Tuesday, June 29 at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is invited and it is a great opportunity to meet the current members and learn all that they do to support the library.
Lastly, Dale Oestmann of Prudential Arizona Properties will be giving a presentation regarding the current real estate situation in Pine and Strawberry.
The next Saturday Shop Hop in Pine occurs on Saturday, July 10, so mark your calendars now to take advantage of the specials participating shops offer on that day.
There will be an Awakening Earth Expo in Pine on Aug. 7 and 8 this year. This is the second year that the expo has been held in Pine and the focus of the event is learning techniques and practices that enhance conservation and lessen environmental impact. There will be many vendors providing organic products, alternative medical solutions, and artwork, plus information about gardening, water conservation, solar energy, and much more.
Sounds like another great reason to head to Pine this summer.
ADOT has resumed paving work just south of Pine (which anyone who drives to Payson is well aware of already!), but they will also be working north of town soon as well. Be sure to plan extra time when driving on Highway 87, because believe me, you’ll need it! Fortunately, the crew only work Monday through Thursday, leaving Friday, Saturday and Sunday open for travelers. So as long as you plan accordingly, you should be OK.
Have a great week in the Rim Country!
