Gila Community College will be offering a new class later this semester.
TEC 171, renewable and sustainable energy, is a great class for home and business owners.
This class will cover energy production in the U.S. and the use of renewable and alternate forms of energy. It will discuss solar (both PV and thermal), bio-energy and wind energy. Two field trips planned. Potential field trip sites include a solar PV installation for residential use. Other potential site visits include an algae biofuel plant or utility scale solar energy production.
The class will be taught by John Sawyer, an engineer with more than 30 years experience in energy production, both renewable and conventional. The class meets on Saturdays, from 10 a.m.. to 2 p.m., beginning March 27
GCC will present a Painting On Silk workshop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. March 6. The workshop will be taught by Helen Tennent.
Students will use permanent DuPont inks and paint on pre-stretched 10-inch circles of silk. Everyone will use their own imaginative designs. Silk will be pre-primed with a no-flow liquid. After drying, no steaming or firing is required. Inks, brushes, primer, and silk circles will be provided — two per person.

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
