The construction of the new school offices and classrooms has resumed at Capps Middle School.

The snows we received a week and a half ago have receded to patches where the plows have concentrated it.

According to the National Weather Service, next weekend into Monday’s forecast show more rain/snow is on its way. With all the moisture, the washes have been running anywhere from a trickle to a few inches deep consistently for a month. Much of the runoff has put a dent into our ongoing drought.

Chevelon Canyon has seen a discharge of 10 to 15 cubic feet per second above normal for the last two weeks with a peak of 80 cubic feet per second Feb. 23, according to the United States Geological Survey.

As of this printing, Heber/Overgaard has received more than half the annual precipitation based on the National Weather Service data. But it is far from the record snow we had back in the week of Dec. 19, 1967 of 81 inches of snow in one week. That stands as the state record for the most snow precipitation in Arizona for one week’s time.

School construction

The construction of the new school offices and classrooms has resumed at Capps Middle School since weather had once again played a role in the recent delay.

The scaffolding and bricks for walls is rising and door jambs are being placed. Preparations for attaching the roof abutments are being accomplished on the east side of the gym.

Weather permitting, the structure can possibly make strides now that the weather conditions are seemingly improving.

Benefit car wash

The car wash to benefit Donna Swanson’s fight on cancer that was originally posted to occur on Feb. 27 is still not rescheduled due to our late weekend forecast. Fire Chief Stan Wagaman indicated that it will still occur. But only after the muddy road conditions subside some, as well as the storms become less frequent. The time and date will be released as soon as the forecasts deem to be clear of storms.
