Results from the Payson Longhorn baseball team’s appearance March 5 and 6 in the Thunderbird Classic near Laughlin, Nev. are sketchy at best; mostly because coach Jerry Daniels was not available at press time, and the school is in spring break.
Reports from the game site, however, indicate Payson opened with a 3-0 win over Mohave, but then fell 10-7 to River Valley and 2-1 to Kingman.
The Horns rebounded to beat Yuma 4-1, but wrapped up play with a 3-1 loss to Palo Verde.
The Longhorns opened the season March 1 with an 8-2 loss to Holbrook.
The Horns were originally scheduled to play today, March 9, at Show Low, but that game has been postponed due to inclement weather.
The Longhorns could return to the diamond March 11 in Winslow, but that game also will depend on weather and road conditions.
“We are keeping our fingers crossed,” said PHS athletic director Jason Lobik.
