Public Comment Period On Lime Creek Fish Barrier Special Use Permit Open

Tonto National Forest officials are seeking public comment on the Creek Ranger District Lime Creek Fish Barrier special use permit draft Environmental Assessment (EA). The public comment period ends April 26.

It is has been proposed to issue a special use permit authorizing the Salt River Project (SRP) to construct and maintain a concrete fish barrier.

The proposed location of the barrier is two miles upstream of Horseshoe Reservoir in Lime Creek. Lime Creek is a small stream with perennial flow in the upper portions and intermittent flow in the lower reaches. A fish barrier would protect approximately four miles of native fish and frog habitat, including existing populations of longfin dace, Gila topminnow, and lowland leopard frogs, from upstream movement of predatory nonnative fish.
