I looked at the calendar and realized that this coming Sunday is Palm Sunday, already!
Where did the weeks go from the first day of Lent? Easter will be early this year, I have two daughters who celebrate their birthday on April 22, and I remember that at least two times Easter was on the same day. I wish everyone a happy holiday season and to enjoy the special time with your families.
Hellsgate Fire Department
The auxiliary to the Hellsgate Fire Department, the “Fireflies,” will hold their first meeting of 2010 on April 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Tonto Village Fire Station #22. There will be many items for discussion and one of the most important is the annual Memorial Weekend breakfast. The event is always a huge success and very well attended.
Raffle tickets are now available from any auxiliary member or call Lori Mulvey at (928) 478-0391 for more details. This year, there will be a diamond necklace and earrings as one of the raffle items along with a handmade quilt made by one of the auxiliary members and a Stihl 20-inch chain saw. The drawing will be at the Labor Day weekend barbecue.
At the last meeting of the Hellsgate Fire Board, head administrator, Angie Lecher, was recognized for her 12 years of service to the fire department. Congratulations, Angie.
Anniversaries recognized at the March 10 board meeting were Len Trujillo, John Jackson, Tony Parker and Trina Houdek for one year of service.
Birthdays for March included Martha Bartlett, Matt Highstreet, Len Trujillo and Matt West.
Chief Hatch and John Ceja were both recognized by the Payson Roundup in its Best of the Rim Country awards. They were nominated by Roundup readers for outstanding service to the community.
Chief Hatch recently attended the Western Fire Chiefs Presidential Forum. The forum was to discuss national issues related to the fire service.
The move is complete. All administrative services for the Hellsgate Fire District are now located at Station 21.
Karen Carlen is the new administrative assistant.

April 3 is the birthday for Bill Fausz of Thompson Draw I, and April 4 is Melvin Palmer’s big day. He lives in Colcord Estates. Eileen Kittock of Christopher Creek celebrates her big day on April 7. Happy birthday to each and every one of you.
Double D doings
Last Tuesday evening the nine-ball gals took to the pool tables for their weekly tournament. Nanci Olson of Christopher Creek was the top winner, followed by Patty Boeschling of Christopher Creek and Pat Bates of the Village.
The scotch doubles were played last Friday at the D. The winning team was Rusty Anderson and Tammy Randall. Second place went to Betty Koutz and Harvey Poyner. Third place went to Jimmy “Rabbit” Stephenson and Ethel Cain. Congratulations to all the winners.
Ethel Cain of the Double D has announced that Lynda St. John will be the feature entertainer on the Memorial Weekend celebration. Mark your calendar, Lynda always draws a full house.
