Lower Insurance Rates For Hellsgate Homes

Property owners within the communities of the Hellsgate Fire District should see a reduction in their insurance rates after the Hellsgate Fire District was awarded an Insurance Services Office (ISO) re-grade.

Effective May 1, the district will move from a 8B/10 classification to a 4/8B classification. For residents within the communities of the Hellsgate Fire District this means a reduction in insurance rates. Communities with a Class 4 rating include Star Valley, Tonto Village, Mead Ranch, Little Green Valley, Thompson Draw I and II, Diamond Point Summer Homes, Collin Ranch and Zane Grey Meadows.

If you live in the communities of Bear Flat, Ellison Creek Summer Homes or Ellison Creek Estates, the ISO will be lowered from a Class 10 to a Class 8B.

ISO is used by most insurance companies to set insurance rates on homes, said Hellsgate Chief Gary Hatch.

Currently in the United States, only 10.3 percent of fire departments are listed as a class 4 or lower with 9.5 percent at class 4.

Out of the 48,321 departments that are rated, only 4,613 have this class.

“The Hellsgate Fire District feels honored to join this elite group, which includes the Town of Payson Fire Department,” Hatch said.

“In Arizona, the number of departments with a class 4 is 6.5 percent, so we feel even more honored to make this classification.

“We have been working for the past eight years towards this re-grade with the purchasing of equipment needed, personnel training, and staffing all coming into play.

“We are more than pleased with the efforts that our personnel put towards this in the last eight months. From putting the paperwork together; training with Christopher Kohl’s and Payson Fire; preparing the equipment and fire station improvements to make this grading effort happen.”

Hellsgate plans to maintain the ISO reduction, even though the department is downsizing during these difficult financial times to maintain fiscal management, Hatch added.

Homeowners within the district can contact their insurance company to expedite a change in their insurance premium. Some companies will not give substantial discounts, which may require that you shop around for insurance companies, which do give discounts, Hatch said.

The Hellsgate Fire District covers 38 square miles and includes 12 communities east of Payson.

The district has 13 fire apparatus operating out of three fire stations, 11 full-time employees and 27 paid, on-call, part-time firefighting staff members.
