On May 3, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will resume construction on highway 87 between Payson and Pine.
The project was on hold because temperatures were too cold for paving.
Crews are working on safety improvements and repaving the roadway. Safety enhancements include improved guardrails, widened shoulders, widening the roadway for turn lanes, extending culverts for improved drainage and new signage. The project includes work in two segments: a 1.3-mile segment just north of Payson; and a one-mile segment just south of Pine.
The project is scheduled for completion in June.
The roadway through segment one will be narrowed to one lane from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Pilot cars will escort vehicles through the work zone in alternating directions. Drivers should anticipate delays of up to 15 minutes.
