Health events

Dr. Cynthia Booth spoke at the Senior Circle Lunch and Learn April 28. She attracted a full house; 65 women attended her program. She is a graduate of Creighton University School of Medicine moved to Payson in 2002, relocating her private practice from the Phoenix/Scottsdale area.

She spoke on a range of topics regarding wellness concerns for women over 50. One of the most discussed topics was the use of hormones by post-menopausal women.

Other topics of interest were osteoporosis, cancer in women and vascular disease. She also discussed incontinence and provided options for solving that little problem women have after childbirth or as we get older when we cough, sneeze or laugh a little too loud.

The importance of having a woman’s physical exam every year was stressed, as well as guidelines for different types of testing that is critical in early detection of certain diseases.

Dr. Booth added that many of the guidelines for testing have changed and advised checking with your doctor on these changes.

Dr. Booth is accepting new patients and based on her presentation at the Lunch and Learn, she will have them.

Guy Lanahan, director of the PRMC Diagnostic Imaging Services, will speak at the May 12 Lunch and Learn. The event is from 11 a.m. to noon, and is free. A light lunch will be served.

He will be speaking on the diagnostic imaging equipment such as the MRI, CAT Scan and Breast Imaging Services. PRMC Diagnostic Imaging Services offers the most current equipment not just in the community, but in the industry as well. The hospital is especially proud of the Magentom Espree, which offers a whole new definition of the open MRI. Lanahan will also discuss what you can expect when going through diagnostic testing and will also introduce some of his staff.

To make reservations for this event, call (928) 472-9290.

Men wanted

The ballroom dance group is looking for a “few more good men.” Dancing ability does not apply. The Thursday dance class is looking for a few more men to join in the fun. This is a great way to get in some exercise, meet new friends and practice your ability to laugh at yourself. Seriously, it’s a fun class and there is absolutely no dance experience required to join. The class is from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. every Thursday at the Senior Circle.

Senior Circle is a Payson Regional Medical Center program that improves the lives of people 50 and better. Membership is only $15 a year.
