A Tonto Basin man was shot in the face by a neighbor Wednesday morning after a long standing dispute over various things including property lines.
Ron Johns, 69, said he shot Loren Eaton, 52, in the face with his shotgun after Eaton reached for his gun and threatened to shoot him.
This isn’t the first time Eaton has threatened him, Johns said. A month ago, Eaton reportedly threatened Johns and his wife.
“He is crazy,” Johns said.
After shooting at Eaton twice, but only striking him once, Johns went inside his home and called 911.
When sheriff’s deputy Wayne Dorsett arrived on scene, Eaton was staggering in his driveway and bleeding from the mouth, according to Gila County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Scott.
Dorsett retrieved two weapons from the scene, one belonging to Eaton and the other Johns.
Tonto Basin Fire Department began medical treatment on Eaton until Native Air airlifted him to a Phoenix hospital. Eaton was still in the hospital Thursday and investigators have not been able to interview him yet.
No charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing, Scott said.
