Thanks to all the community members that donated to make this year another successful Fools’ Day Fun.
The community businesses again came through with an array of prizes that were enjoyed by all. Special thanks to the Tonto Apache Tribe for making it possible again to award the grand prize of a computer, which was won by Page Wilson.
There were a large number of entries for both the poster contest and essay contest. First place winners received $50 gift certificates from Walmart. The second and third place winners received $25 gift certificates from Walmart. The winners for the poster contest included Kassidy Vaughn, Brittney Kinzer and Skylar Vela. Winners for the essay contest were Elizabeth White, Kaycee Simpson and Erika Clark. There was an unexpected honorable mention awarded to Amber Ward for her poster entry and she received a $20 gift certificate to Walgreens.
The cotton candy was a favorite for all the children. DJ Craig provided wonderful music, games and entertainment throughout the event. The 180-plus family members and children who attended, enjoyed an array of game booths that included darts, bingo, substance use wheel of fortune and many others.
All the booths were tended by various community organizations that donated their time and energy to join in with the Community Prevention Council in educating the families on underage drinking and promoting family engagement in discussing this problem among their family members. Everyone left the event with a bag full of information and booth prizes and their bellies full. Thanks to all who donated, attended and participated in making this a very successful community event.
