Dear Governor Brewer:
I am a 73-year-old resident of Gila County. I have worked on campaigns from Darrell Smith to Barry Goldwater until the present time. I believe in our state as you do.
My husband and I have visited Mexico, where we presented our passports while in that country. We spent three weeks in Costa Rica last October, where we were asked to present our passports on four occasions. I lived in the Philippines from 1998-2001, where I was asked to present my passport on several occasions. I was not offended as I was a guest in their country and expected to do so.
The United States is the only country that I am aware of with no border control.
Hurray for you! You opened a “can of worms” that needed to be opened. Stand your ground. You have much support. If only California, New Mexico and Texas had the intestinal fortitude to follow suit.
I will help in any way I can.
