Less than a month remains until Payson runs the relay that saves lives.
Twenty-five Relay for Life teams have already raised $11,300, and more fund-raisers are planned. On Saturday, May 22, Walgreens and Payson Regional Medical Center will hold a car wash and barbecue at Walgreens from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This year’s Relay for Life begins at 6 p.m. June 4 at the Payson High School track. The event continues into the next morning to honor the round-the-clock fight of those battling cancer.
Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s largest fund-raiser, raising nearly $400 million nationally every year. Money helps fund research, advocacy and education.
Local leaders are recruiting teams to participate, survivors to honor, and businesses willing to sponsor. Team members typically take turns walking the track throughout the event.
To start or join a team, contact Team Chair DJ Craig at (928) 468-1482 or Alan Miller at (928) 468-6292, or at firstname.lastname@example.org. For those not walking, constant action keeps them occupied. Entertainment, food and games — last year’s Relay featured a dunk tank with politicians and radio personalities, great food and a 4-H petting zoo.
