Junction 87 is one of the groups performing as part of the 2010 Concert Under the Stars series at Green Valley Park this summer. The popular local group will be the featured group Saturday, July 10.

Make a list of your favorite picnic supper foods and supplies and start getting the ingredients together.

Find easy-to-carry lawn chairs or a nice, thick, comfy blanket to put on the grass at Green Valley Park. The annual Concert Under the Stars series is coming back in just a couple of weeks.

The popular series, held in Green Valley Park’s amphitheater area around the bandstand, resumes Saturday, June 5.

The concerts are being made possible this year by the Town of Payson, Payson Regional Medical Center, Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 98.5 FM KCMA and 1420 AM KMOG.

The concerts begin at 7 p.m., but vendor booths open at 6 p.m.

The schedule includes: June 5, the Terry McFee Orchestra with music from dance tunes of the Big Band era, waltzes and polkas to rock ’n roll from the 1950s; June 12, Gone Country with popular country and western music; June 19, Code Blue with more country and western music; June 26, Southern Comfort with traditional country as well as southern rock and pop; July 3, The Higher Power Band with music reaching back to the popular tunes of the 1960s through today; July 10, Junction 87 with country that rocks out; July 17, The J. Powers Band with blues, classic rock, R&B, Motown and soul; July 24, Payson Jazz with mainstream jazz plus swing and Big Band sounds.

The concerts are free.

Other parks and rec offerings

A Dog First Aid and CPR course is planned for Saturday, July 10 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Payson Police Department meeting room, 303 N. Beeline Hwy. The cost is $25 per person.

Instructors with the American Red Cross will cover many issues that dog owners experience; including what are common ailments, what situations are life-threatening, how to handle choking and perform CPR for a dog.

A class in Dutch Oven Cooking will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday July 24 at Rumsey Park Ramada 4. Register now through Thursday, July 15. Participants will learn how to cook main dishes, desserts and fresh bread from award-winning Dutch Oven cooking instructors. The cost is $30 per person.
