Seniors Get Spicy This Summer To Help Teens

Members of the Senior Circle will spice it up this summer with a Bikini Car Wash and Zumba Dance.

The Senior Circle is teaming up with the Payson High School Athletic Club for its first ever Bikini Car Wash. The car wash will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 19 at the Walgreens parking lot. The athletic club will be washing the cars and, well, the Senior Circle volunteers will be donning the bikinis.

The Payson High School Athletic Club is sponsored by Payson Regional Medical Center and teaches high school participants skills in sports medicine and athletic training. These club members are on the field or court with the school’s athletic teams handling injuries, warming up team players and assisting the team’s medical doctor. The athletic program prepares these kids for college and the profession in which they will major in higher education.

This year, the athletic club members need to raise $1,800 to attend a special sports camp and the Senior Circle will help them do it. Funds will also go toward Senior Circle programs.

“Our goal is to raise more than the Payson High Cheerleaders made at their last car wash. We hear they made $2,000 and we want to show them that seniors still have it (a sense of humor anyway),” says Senior Circle Adviser Christy VanderMolen. Tickets are on sale now for a $5 donation. Help raise money for these great programs. Pick up a ticket for at the Senior Circle office, hospital or various merchant locations.

Zumba Gold Fitness

The Zumba Gold Fitness program is designed for the active adult, the true beginner, people who are not used to exercising, and people who may be limited physically. The main difference between Zumba Gold and Zumba Fitness is that Zumba Gold is done at a lower intensity, not as fast, but it certainly is as fun. The same great Latin styles of music and dance are used. Participants will get a safe and effective total body workout while maintaining the party atmosphere of a regular Zumba class

This amazing program is very easy to follow, so anyone at any age will be able to do Zumba Gold. Dances that are specifically highlighted in this program include the merengue, salsa, cha cha, cumbia, rock ’n’ roll (including the twist and Charleston), flamenco and even belly dance!

There will be a “sneak preview” class at the Senior Circle at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 26. Certified instructor Christy Walton, will be teaching the “sneak preview” class. The class will last about 30 minutes. No need to call and reserve a spot, just show up.

Health events

Lori Vario, licensed massage therapist, will be at the June 9 Lunch and Learn from 11 a.m. to noon.

Vario will be leading a workshop on self-massage and relaxation techniques. She will show members how to work out those “knots and cramps” that cause pain and give us some important tips on relaxation.

Vario has been very active in community wellness events and her workshops are always well attended. Make your reservation now and call the Senior Circle at (928) 472-9290.

The Senior Circle will be closed Monday, May 31 in observance of Memorial Day. All classes are canceled.

The Circle’s Movie Day is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 1. The planned show is “Leap Year,” a comedy featuring Amy Adams.
