Art In The Park

Artists in Jim Strong’s art classes at the Payson Campus of Gila Community College enjoyed a day out at Green Valley Park recently. The art in the park day was optional, but gave students a hands-on lesson in perspective and proportion.

Thanks to a snow day during the Rim Country’s wet and stormy winter, the students in Jim Strong’s art classes enjoyed a day at Green Valley Park recently.

The Gila Community College students took their art to the park for lessons in perspective and proportion.

Strong, a longtime Rim Country artist, taught two classes during the spring term at GCC with about 22 in each. The art in the park day was not a requirement and took place after the end of the term, so only about a dozen of the students took advantage of the bright, sunny day and beautiful surroundings at Green Valley Park.

Getting the right perspective.

Strong has worked with art students at GCC for six years. Many of his students are members of the Payson Art League and quite professional, he said.
