The weather has taken its toll on some residents’ properties with damaging winds breaking branches and causing further damage to trees and roofing as wind speeds topped 60 mph on Sunday May 23.
One resident who works for the fire department recently had a drain field installed at their residence reported many smaller trees lining the area where the trench was dug had blown over due to roots being cut in the trenching process and therefore losing stability in the high winds.
The Renegy Corporation green waste disposal site located off Highway 277 on the eastern side of Overgaard has been receiving many truckloads of yard waste due to recent winds, as well as contractor clearing material resulting from cleaning and clearing activities.
Meanwhile, our forests are having a stretch of time without precipitation causing the fire danger sign at the Black Mesa Ranger Station to remain at the “high” indication. Please exercise care with fire-related activities, especially on windy days.
Many residents have mentioned they have never seen winds like this year since living here. Some of those residents have lived here over 50 years.
