Arizona Coaches Association members have chosen Mary Hagen to participate in the annual North vs. South All-Star game.
Hagen, a senior at Payson High School, was named to the 21-player team as a pitcher and first baseman.
The celestial shoot-out will be played June 12 at Show Low High School.
Each summer the ACA hosts a series of all-star games that pit the finest graduated seniors against one another in a final prep clash. The games are held for most high school sports.
Hagen’s selection comes on the heels of her being one of three Lady Longhorns named to the All-East Region first team.
As a junior, she was named to the East second team.
Hagen advances to the All-Star game as Payson High’s ace pitcher for the past three seasons. She also saw varsity pitching duty as a freshman.
According to the most recent PHS team stats, Hagen compiled a 3.72 ERA that included 130 strikeouts and 56 walks in 154 innings. During the campaign, she threw two shutouts and four one-run games.
One of Hagen’s finest performances her senior year might have been during an early season 5-3 win over the Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets.
Following the game, assistant coach Kadi Tenney lauded Hagen for her performance saying she pitched outstanding and was a difference maker.
Hagen was the only Payson player named to the All-Star team, but fellow East Region members Show Low had three players selected and Snowflake had one.
Show Low honorees were Renee LaPointe, Chelsey Poteet and Kaylee Keith. The Lobos had outfielder Kelcie Brimhall chosen.
